Land north of Bartholomew Close in the village of Great Chesterford, Essex delivers thirteen affordable new homes, reflecting the character of Great Chesterford and surrounding villages. The site lies between existing residential areas and is bordered by established greenery, with close links to local amenities and transport.
Architectural
The development includes a balance mix of 2 bungalows, 8 two bedroom houses, 2 three bedroom houses and 1 four bedroom house. The architectural design is inspired by the Victorian character of Great Chesterford and neighbouring villages. It features traditional elements such as dormer and cottage-style windows, red brickwork, brick arches, gable porches, and varied roof tiles. A variety of building heights have been incorporated to preserve privacy and ensure the development blends seamlessly with neighbouring properties.
Sustainability
Fabric first approach has been adopted to reduce energy use for heating and cooling. To further minimise carbon emissions all homes have air source heat pumps and PV panels. To support the site's biodiversity, we have integrated bird and bat boxes. Additionally, class C1 and C2 trees along the boundaries have been retained and protected to preserve the site's mature character and ensure continued privacy for residents.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
The development has been designed to prioritise accessibility, safety, and sustainability. The development includes a single vehicle access point to minimise disruption to the surrounding area while maintaining safe entry and exit. Two dwellings have been built to Part M(3) standards for full wheelchair accessibility. All homes meet or exceed Lifetime Homes design standards, allowing for long-term adaptability as residents’ needs change. To promote sustainable travel, a 3 metre wide pedestrian and cycle link connects the site to Stanley Close, encouraging walking and cycling within the community.
