Nelson Road, Great Yarmouth

Architectural services were delivered as part of the scheme.

Conservation Scheme

We were appointed by our client to assist with the conversion of the Old Art College into 18 affordable flats for rent and design and implementation of associated communal areas and parking. The building is Grade II Listed and therefore any amendments to the building had to be carefully considered. No changes could be made to the facade to protect the original character and appearance. Fixtures were repaired wherever possible throughout the redevelopment. Any replacements made were done so sympathetically ensuring that they matched the originals as closely as possible. Crittal windows were reglazed wherever possible with double glazing and sealed with struck putty and frames grit blasted and repainted while in place. Cast iron rainwater hoppers and downpipes were removed and repaired off site and refixed upon completion. The existing railings were retained and repaired by a specialist architectural ironworker.

Internally existing joinery was retained and was redecorated throughout, using an off-white paint to retain the ‘studio’ feel of the building. Plasterboard was used over wall skimming to make internal changes reversible should this be required in the future.
