Architectural services were delivered as part of the scheme.

Extra Care Housing Scheme

Hauxton Meadows is located west of Hauxton on the site of the former Bayer Crop Science agrochemical works, which operated from the 1940s until its closure in 2004. The regeneration of this brownfield site provided an opportunity to deliver high quality extra care housing in a thoughtfully designed setting. The development consists of 70 self-contained apartments tailored to the needs of older residents requiring varying levels of support. Unlike traditional care homes, this scheme enables residents to maintain independence, with each apartment having its own front door and access to care services as needed.

Architectural
The building strikes a balance between contemporary design and local context. While distinct from the more traditional neighbouring homes, it maintains a domestic scale and draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement. The material palette is locally appropriate, and recessed elevations are painted in earthy tones reflecting the changing seasons.

Residents
Residents benefit from a variety of external spaces including a café terrace, private balconies, a landscaped roof garden and communal grounds which support both social interaction and personal wellbeing
